Bruins' Bergeron likely in for Game 5

BOSTON (AP) Center Patrice Bergeron is "optimistic" he can play Saturday when the Boston Bruins face the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 5 of their first-round series.

Bergeron missed the Bruins' 3-1 Game 4 victory on Thursday with an undisclosed injury. The Bruins lead the series 3-1 lead and can advance with a victory. If Toronto wins, Game 6 is Monday at Air Canada Centre.

Bergeron skated Saturday at Warrior Ice Arena.

Jackets visit Caps with series tied at 2

WASHINGTON -- The best-of-seven is now a best-of-three.

The Columbus Blue Jackets, unable to capitalize on the prosperity of winning the first two games on the road, travel to Washington for Saturday's Game 5 matinee against the resurgent Capitals with the series tied -- just as Alex Ovechkin predicted.

Jackets' Wennberg back after missing 3

WASHINGTON (AP) Alexander Wennberg will return to the Columbus Blue Jackets' lineup for Game 5 at the Washington Capitals.

Coach John Tortorella confirmed his return about an hour before puck drop on Saturday. Wennberg was back after missing Games 2, 3 and 4 after a hit to the head from Washington's Tom Wilson. Tortorella says Wennberg replaces Sonny Milano in the lineup.

Sharks' 4th line helps team advance

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) Eric Fehr and Marcus Sorensen spent most of the season toiling in the AHL, just waiting for their chance.

That opportunity has arrived in the playoffs for San Jose and those two fourth-line forwards are a major reason why the Sharks swept Anaheim to advance to a second-round series against Vegas.

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) Minnesota Wild forward Eric Staal got right to the point.

"It couldn't have gone any worse at the start for us, and it couldn't have gone any better for them," Staal said. "They got the momentum and ran with it, especially early."

Couturier, Flyers force Game 6 vs. Pens

PITTSBURGH (AP) Sean Couturier did what he could to deal with the pain in his left leg, then hopped over the boards and let the adrenaline that comes with playoff hockey take care of the rest.

The Philadelphia Flyers are still alive as a result.

Hurricanes' Peters resigns after 4 years

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) Bill Peters has not been able to lead the Carolina Hurricanes back to the NHL playoffs and after coming up short following his fourth season with the club, announced Friday that he is resigning.

"I feel like this is a good time to move on," Peters said in a statement issued by the team, "and I am looking forward to my next challenge."

Caps' Burakovsky out for rest of Round 1

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) Washington Capitals winger Andre Burakovsky will have minor surgery to repair an upper-body injury and miss the rest of the first-round series against Columbus.

Coach Barry Trotz says Burakovsky could return if his team advances deeper in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Burakovsky was injured in Game 2 Sunday on a hit by Blue Jackets forward Boone Jenner.

Kings shift focus to extending Doughty

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) The Los Angeles Kings believe they are still Stanley Cup contenders, even after being swept by the upstart Vegas Golden Knights in the first round. How close they are to that goal might be reflected in how negotiations go with defenseman Drew Doughty this summer.

General manager Rob Blake said Friday that working out a contract extension with Doughty is the team's top priority. The Kings and Doughty can begin holding talks on July 1, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the 2018-19 season.
