Beauchemin back for 3rd stint with Ducks

(TSX / STATS) -- The Anaheim Ducks brought back veteran defenseman Francois Beauchemin for a third stint with the franchise, signing him to a one-year contract Monday.

Terms were not disclosed, but deal is worth a reported $1 million with an additional $500,000 that can be earned through performance incentives.

Beauchemin, 37, appeared in 525 career NHL games with Anaheim, recording 179 points (53 goals, 126 assists), and he was a member of the 2007 Stanley Cup champions.


Devils C Zajac could miss up to 6 months

(TSX / STATS) -- The New Jersey Devils announced Thursday that veteran center Travis Zajac could miss up to six months after having surgery to repair a torn left pectoral muscle.

"This morning, Travis Zajac underwent successful surgery to repair a torn left pectoral muscle that was suffered last week during offseason training," Devils general manager Ray Shero said. "The procedure was performed by the club's chief medical officer, Dr. Jonathan L. Glashow. Zajac's expected recovery time is approximately four to six months."


Sabres keep Girgensons for $3.2M, 2 yrs.

(TSX / STATS) -- The Buffalo Sabres agreed to a two-year contract extension with center Zemgus Girgensons on Thursday.

The team announced the contract holds an annual average value of $1.6 million.


Oilers sign Draisaitl for 8 years, $68M

(TSX / STATS) -- The Edmonton Oilers signed center Leon Draisaitl to an eight-year, $68 million contract extension through the 2024-25 season.

The deal has an average annual value of $8.5 million.


Wild sign ex-Penguin Cullen to $1M deal

(TSX / STATS) -- The Minnesota Wild signed free agent center Matt Cullen, who decided to return for a 20th NHL season after winning back-to-back Stanley Cup championships with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The deal is a one-year, $1 million contract plus $700,000 in potential performance bonuses, the Wild announced Wednesday.


Islanders F Prince to miss 4-6 months

(TSX / STATS) -- New York Islanders forward Shane Prince will be sidelined four to six months after undergoing ankle surgery, the team announced Monday.

Prince collected five goals and 13 assists in 50 games last season before missing the final four contests of the regular season with a high ankle sprain.


Lightning re-sign F McGinn for 1 year

(TSX / STATS) -- The Tampa Bay Lightning re-signed forward Tye McGinn to a one-year, two-way contract on Thursday.

McGinn, 27, skated in 21 games with the Lightning's AHL affiliate in Syracuse, N.Y. last season, scoring 10 goals and nine assists to go along with 16 penalty minutes.


Wings angry white nationalists used logo

(TSX / STATS) -- The Detroit Red Wings condemned the use of their logo by extremists at a white nationalist rally on Saturday in Charlottesville, Va.

A group of people were viewed with placards sporting the Red Wings' logo.


Former coach, GM Bryan Murray dies at 74

(TSX / STATS) -- Bryan Murray, a former NHL coach and general manager with five different teams in his career, died of colon cancer on Saturday. He was 74.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman released a statement on Murray's passing.


Jagr wants to play, keeping options open

(TSX / STATS) -- Jaromir Jagr finds himself in unfamiliar territory as the future Hall of Famer is without a job with the NHL season under two months away.

The 45-year-old Jagr admitted that he could play with the second-tier team he owns in his native Czech Republic if an NHL team doesn't come calling.
