Isles stop skid, halt Caps' 4-game run

(TSX / STATS) -- NEW YORK -- There's nothing easy about the commute to Barclays Center for the New York Islanders. But for the Islanders players who live on Long Island, getting to Monday's game by navigating traffic along the New York-area highways or dealing with the train felt like vacation compared to what they went through last week.

Brock Nelson scored just 2:36 into the first period Monday night to give the road-weary Islanders a lead they would never relinquish in a 3-1 win over the Washington Capitals at Barclays Center.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Islanders (17-10-3), who came back early Sunday morning from a 1-2-1 road trip in which they never left the Eastern time zone yet arrived home feeling as drained as they would from a cross-country trek.

(TSX / STATS) -- ANAHEIM, Calif. -- With the Ducks losing so many men to injury, Anaheim players roll their eyes when asked about the team's health troubles.

Jets rout Canucks, home win streak at 7

(TSX / STATS) -- WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- Moments after he almost scored on his own team, Winnipeg Jets left winger Nikolaj Ehlers found the correct goal and gave one of the NHL's hottest home teams some welcome insurance.

Ehlers adeptly one-timed a rebound off a Tyler Myers shot 14:09 into the second period for a power-play goal, and the Jets rolled to a 5-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Monday night at Bell MTS Place.

Stars top Rangers in SO, end slide at 3

(TSX / STATS) -- NEW YORK -- All night, the Dallas Stars produced one odd-man rush after another and a steady stream of shots.

For most of Monday night's visit to Madison Square Garden, those shots turned into frustrating experiences and, in the estimation of the Stars, not getting two points would have been the biggest disappointment.

Matheson puts Panthers over Wings in OT

(TSX / STATS) -- DETROIT -- Stick with the process.

That is the mantra that Detroit Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill continues to preach to his team. But with each mounting loss, it's possible that this blueprint is becoming a much harder sell.

Jets activate G Mason, send Comrie down

(TSX / STATS) -- The Winnipeg Jets activated Steve Mason from injured reserve and assigned fellow goaltender Eric Comrie to Manitoba of the American Hockey League, the team announced Monday.

McElhinney stops 41, Leafs blank Oilers

(TSX / STATS) -- TORONTO -- It is rare in hockey that the only goal of a game is scored in the first minute of the first period.

The Maple Leafs did just that Sunday night. Zach Hyman scored 34 seconds into the game, and backup goaltender Curtis McElhinney made sure it stood up, making 41 saves in a 1-0 victory over the Edmonton Oilers.

Tarasenko lifts Blues over Sabres in OT

(TSX / STATS) -- ST. LOUIS -- Paul Stastny has played with Vladimir Tarasenko long enough to realize how much pressure Tarasenko puts on himself to succeed on a nightly basis.
