Cutler, Dolphins end Patriots' run at 8

(TSX / STATS) -- MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. -- The Miami Dolphins deflated the New England Patriots' chances for gaining AFC home-field advantage, and Jarvis Landry made sure the reigning Super Bowl champions made the historical connection.

Landry, Miami's star wide receiver, caught two of Jay Cutler's three touchdown passes as the double-digit underdog Dolphins upset the Patriots 27-20 on Monday night at Hard Rock Stadium.

After his second touchdown grab, Landry celebrated by pretending to inflate the football -- perhaps mocking New England quarterback Tom Brady's "Deflategate" issues.

Wentz out for season with torn ACL

(TSX / STATS) -- Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz has a torn ACL in his left knee and will miss the remainder of the season and playoffs, coach Doug Pederson announced Monday.

The 24-year-old Wentz, who was expected to be an NFL MVP candidate this season, underwent an MRI on Monday morning after suffering the knee injury in Sunday's 43-35 victory over the Los Angeles Rams.

Rodgers has CT scan, awaiting clearance

(TSX / STATS) -- GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Back in 2010, Aaron Rodgers returned after missing the majority of two full games late in the season with a concussion, then led the Green Bay Packers to six straight wins and an eventual Super Bowl title.

In 2013, Rodgers came back after missing nearly eight full games with a broken left collarbone and led the Packers to the NFC North title.

O'Brien: If I saw tape, Savage stays out

(TSX / STATS) -- Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien told reporters Monday he "never would have allowed (Tom Savage) back in the game" had he seen the video of the quarterback's hands appearing to shake involuntarily.

O'Brien also said he asked Houston's medical staff to examine Savage a second time after they initially cleared him to return to Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers at NRG Stadium. Savage sustained a concussion in the second quarter and was slow to his feet after he was drilled by 49ers defensive end Elvis Dumervil.

Carroll regrets Seahawks-Jaguars finish

(TSX / STATS) -- RENTON, Wash. -- The Seattle Seahawks will not see any suspensions handed down from the NFL for actions taken by several players in the closing moments on Sunday's 30-24 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Head coach Pete Carroll said Monday that the league won't be suspending defensive linemen Michael Bennett, Sheldon Richardson or Quinton Jefferson for their actions on two kneel-down attempts by Jacksonville.

Bucs QB Winston denies rift with Koetter

(TSX / STATS) -- TAMPA -- This has been a tough year for Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston and head coach Dirk Koetter. Winston missed three games with a shoulder injury and was banged up in four others.

Koetter's team started the year with enormous expectations, but are now 4-9 and his future with the team is in doubt.

Bills have huge question mark at QB

(TSX / STATS) -- ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- With the Buffalo Bills' playoff chances hanging in the balance, they have all kinds of problems at the quarterback position this week.

Starter Tyrod Taylor was inactive for Sunday's 13-7 victory over Indianapolis because of a knee injury, so rookie Nathan Peterman started in his place. However, Peterman was knocked out of the game in the third quarter by a concussion, and head coach Sean McDermott said Monday he remains in concussion protocol.

Jets' McCown breaks hand, done for year

(TSX / STATS) -- New York Jets quarterback Josh McCown will miss the remainder of the season with a fractured left hand, the team announced Monday.

McCown sustained the injury after being knocked to the ground by outside linebacker Shane Ray during the third quarter of Sunday's 23-0 loss to the Denver Broncos, ending what had been his best season during his 15-year NFL career.

Cowboys' Lawrence rips refs on non-calls

(TSX / STATS) -- FRISCO, Texas - Dallas Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence could be facing a fine from the NFL.

The NFL's sack leader ripped the officiating crew after the Cowboys' 30-10 win over the New York Giants Sunday afternoon for not making any holding calls. Actually, the Giants were called for holding once. But that's not good enough for Lawrence. And yes, Lawrence realizes a fine is coming, whether he's got a point or not. And yes, he probably does.

NFL, Verizon reach deal to stream games

(TSX / STATS) -- The NFL and Verizon announced on Monday a multi-year deal that will allow games to be streamed on Verizon mobile and digital platforms.

Sports Business Daily reported that Verizon will pay the NFL close to $500 million a year -- about twice the annual price of the largest U.S. wireless carrier's previous four-year deal with the league worth $250 million annually. Sources told ESPN that Verizon will pay approximately $2.5 billion in a five-year deal with the NFL that lasts through 2022.
