Seahawks QB Wilson to join Yankees camp

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is set to join the New York Yankees' spring training camp on Monday.

The Yankees acquired the one-time minor league infielder from the Texas Rangers on Feb. 7 for future considerations.

Wilson will spent a few days with the Yankees but won't play in any games. He was assigned No. 73; his football jersey is No. 3, long retired by the Yankees for Babe Ruth.

Herbstreit takes Gruden's place at draft

Kirk Herbstreit will take Jon Gruden's place on ESPN's coverage of the NFL draft.

ESPN announced Thursday that Herbstreit will be part the opening night coverage of the first round in prime time on April 26 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Herbstreit will be joined by host Trey Wingo, draft analyst Mel Kiper and NFL analyst Louis Riddick.

Panthers re-hire Hurney as full-time GM

Marty Hurney will be calling the shots once again with the Carolina Panthers.

Carolina re-hired Hurney as its general manager on Wednesday, marking his second full-time stint as general manager. Hurney previously worked for the Panthers from 1998-2012, beginning as GM in 2002. He rejoined the Panthers last July as on an interim basis.

CB Davis meets with 49ers, Raiders

ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) Free agent cornerback Vontae Davis has met with the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders about upgrading their secondaries.

A person familiar with Davis' plans says he met with the Raiders on Wednesday after meeting with 49ers the previous day. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the meetings were not made public. Davis has also reportedly met with Cleveland and Buffalo

Saints owner Benson in hospital with flu

METAIRIE, La. (AP) New Orleans Saints and Pelicans Owner Tom Benson has been hospitalized with flu symptoms.

A statement released Wednesday by the NFL and NBA clubs says their 90-year-old owner is resting comfortably at Ochsner Medical Center, a hospital which also serves as a major sponsor and which owns naming rights to the teams' training headquarters.

Hernandez's fiancee sues for home assets

TAUNTON, Mass. (AP) Aaron Hernandez's fiancee has sued the estates of three men the former New England Patriots player was charged with killing in an effort to ensure their daughter benefits from the sale of the ex-NFL star's home.

The families of Odin Lloyd, Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado have filed wrongful-death lawsuits against Hernandez's estate. Should they win, money from the mansion's sale could be used to pay damages.

Dolphins WR Landry gets franchise tag

MIAMI (AP) The Miami Dolphins decided receiver Jarvis Landry is worth any headaches he causes, even if the cost is $16 million.

Landry was given a non-exclusive franchise tag Tuesday after leading the NFL with 112 catches in 2017. The move by the Dolphins came on the first day that teams could assign franchise tags.

Eagles C Kelce plays sax with prep band

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce got attention for his impassioned and profane speech after the team's Super Bowl parade, but he's now communicating through music.

The jazz band from Kelce's Ohio high school alma mater was performing at a Philadelphia high school Thursday when he decided to lend some help. He borrowed one boy's saxophone and sat in with the Cleveland Heights High School band. He then stayed on to play with Philly's Central High School band, too.

Buccaneers release RB Martin

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) Two-time Pro Bowl running back Doug Martin has been released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who may look for a replacement in free agency.

Martin rushed for a career-low 406 yards in 2017, when he averaged just 2.9 yards per carry after missing the first three games of the season while serving the remainder of a four-game ban for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancers.
